Engine Instruments

enginst1.bmp (122358 bytes)These are the engine instruments for the C-182S. Clockwise from upper left ...

Fuel quantity gauge for left and right tanks

EGT (exhaust gas temperature) and CHT (cylinder head temperature) ... both used to rate engine performance.

Manifold Pressure and Fuel Flow -- Manifold pressure shows how much power the engine is producing and is controlled by the throttle. Fuel flow is controlled by the mixture control.

Oil Pressure and Temperature -- perhaps the most important engine gauges. Monitor these gauges carefully ... from engine start (watch for oil pressure to increase) to cruise, to shut down, these will show the status of the blood of the engine -- the oil.

tach.bmp (55402 bytes)The tachometer shows the RPM of the propeller. This is controlled by the propeller control. On fixed pitch airplanes it shows power.

rgeng.bmp (103806 bytes)These are the gauges for the C-182RG.
