Group 6: The Arts The Arts are inextricably linked to Abby Sr. Besides having the Abbey Arts Theatre at our disposal for our Theatre Arts program, we are also the Fine Arts High School in the Abbotsford District. Visual and Performing Arts are an important part of the IB Diploma Programme. There are three options in the IB Programme at Abby Sr. IB TV and Film (Years 1 & 2) This incredible two year course should appeal to any student who is interested in all of the various aspects of the film industry. Students will be given the opportunity to view different types of films from around the world, to study and explore how movies are made, and to make many different types of videos. Students will also have the opportunity to visit production companies and movie locations, interact with professionals from the industry, as well as to be part of a production team while making a longer film. Future employment along with advanced educational opportunities will be discussed, researched and explored during this course. Join this exciting team and be part of the first wave of IB film students. IB Theatre (Years 1 & 2) This course focuses on world theatre and gives the student to explore acting, lighting, stage managing, script writing, directing and many more drama activities over the two years of the program. Students will have the wonderful opportunity to go to plays and to visit other theatre schools in Vancouver. Students will be able to perform live for audiences of all ages and to tour a show to various locations throughout the lower Fraser Valley. Other professional theatre workshop leaders will be brought in so that students can experience several in-depth explorations on various theatre styles such as Noh or Commedia del Arte, how to find an agent, or how to audition for movies. By the end of this course, students have put together a fabulous portfolio that can be used when auditioning for a play, movie, or post-secondary school. Check out abbysenior.org for details about this year's Dinner Theatre. IB Art/Visual Art (Years 1 & 2) This course is for those students who have a love of art. IB Art, Year 1, will introduce the philosophy and criteria of IB through a study of art and art history. Students will be encouraged to work independently, place emphasis on personal imagery and develop strategies to work in and explore the various areas of drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. To complete Year 2 of the course students must prepare an Individual Art Show. The students will have developed a personal style, researched various art strategies for using materials and presenting work. They will have also established research workbooks. Year 2 of the course will allow for consultation time with the instructor and extra studio time. Previous student art show have been exhibited at the Abbey Arts Addition and the Kariton House Art Gallery.
